Perth Major Stadium planning continues with cross-government collaboration
Fri 30 March, 2012

Planning for the new Perth Major Stadium continues to progress with the Project Definition Plan (PDP) due for completion by mid 2012.

Perth Major Stadium Project Director Ronnie Hurst said the PDP will enable government to define the design and planning framework, financial direction and timeline for delivery of the project.

The steering committee overseeing delivery of the new stadium is co-chaired by the Executive Director of the Office of Strategic Projects, Richard Mann, and the Director General of the Department of Sport and Recreation, Ron Alexander.

The whole-of-government approach to the stadium’s planning involves cooperation between the Office of Strategic Projects, the Department of Sport and Recreation, the Department of Planning and the Public Transport Authority.

“Potential users of the stadium are working with us to ensure it will meet their needs. Organisations such as the Town of Victoria Park, the Burswood Park Board and the Belmont Race Club are involved to ensure integration with their future plans,” Mr Hurst said.

“Following the initial planning phase of the project, we will undertake a comprehensive consultation process that will inform and engage the wider community throughout the next six years of the project.”

Following State Government approval of PDP, the delivery phase will commence with the preparation of tenders for the design and construction of the stadium.
Construction is due to start in 2014 for completion for the 2018 Australian Football League season
